Refreshing pools to dip in!

The rambling path leads to the bottom of the valley HAMOA. It crosses through a bamboo forest, then through a curiously shaped water chestnut forest, dipping under wood ferns as you go. We cross cool streams and take refreshing dips in spectacular giant water bowls. In order to reach the first magnificent cascade falling from about one hundred and sixty five feet high, we will have to hike along rocks and cliffs, helping ourselves with ropes that are permanently settled there for your sake. Our reward for all the strain, stress and effort made to reach that highlight is the immense pleasure of diving head first or jumping into a gigantic natural basin filled with the purest and coolest water!

If we get there early in the morning, we will be welcomed by a spectacular morning view due to the eastern exposure of the valley. Along the way, our guide Patrick will share with us his deep knowledge of the exhuberant and rich tropical flora and fauna of Raiatea.

NOTE: This hill-walking is meant for persons in good physical condition, used to hiking in the mountains. It lasts about 2 hours on the way up and 1 and a half hours on the way down.
